Is it still safe to consume EWI if they are in transit for over 7 days? I need my EWI, however, I am stationed overseas. There are no alteratives that replicate EWI storage and shelf life. I consume a lot and the products here do not seem to match the quality and price of EWI.
Can anyone shed some light? Transit time is about 7-10 days. I do seem to get a wee belly ache after consuming my EWI that is why I am asking. I am not sure if it the amount of protein i am consuming that makes it ache or maybe the product went off. There is not smell or anything like that that would be a definate indicator of it being off. No smell, no discoloration etc. Thanks all! |

7-10 is probably pushing it a bit but please remember that these leave our facility freshly frozen... frozen solid, in sealed containers and then packaged with insulating foam and cardboard boxed. Over a few days of shipment, especially in hot summer months, they can begin to thaw somewhat but in most cases they arrive with some ice still left and are absolutely fine. If they arrive completely thawed yet there is very little odor or taste then again I would venture to say that they are fine but you will want to get them back into a cooler asap. They will stay fresh in a refigerator for a month or more and can stay frozen indefinately. If your egg whites are without taste, odor, or discoloration then I wouldn't expect that there is any problem. Again please remember that they are low heat pastureized making them completely safe. However, like any food if they are left out for long periods of time then they can begin to spoil. Hope that helps

Actually, the instructions state that they last 90-120 days in the refrigerator after thawing and can be refrozen. If they are completely thawed when they arrive, just put them in the fridge overnight and they are fine to consume the next day, if there is no odor. My fridge is at 38 degrees and I never have a problem. I hung a 99 cent store thermometer on the pump to make sure that part of my fridge was under 40 degrees. Works like a charm.
